Dr. Brad Cole Movement Workshop

Many of you have been to Dr. Brad Cole in his office setting, and now we are lucky enough to have him share his knowledge once again at CrossFit Mechanix. Listed below is what to expect along with links to learn more about Dr. Cole and his credentials.

We will work through the 7-step movement prep. It is a self analysis to prioritize the self-directed part of a warm up.

The 7-step movement prep answers questions like: "How much stretching is enough?"  "What should I focus on for a warm-up?"  and "Am I moving well?" 

Specifically, the purpose of the 7 Step Movement Prep is to provide a quick, accurate, self-administered movement audit so athletes can prioritize their warm-up.  There are thousands of mobilization techniques and activation drills. Athletes don’t need more drills, but rather need to know on which areas they should focus prior to training.  Athletes don’t need to hammer on the same mobility drills indefinitely, but rather need standards to ensure that they have achieved the requisite mobility and stability prior to training.  This series of 7 movement audits uncovers asymmetries and restrictions across the entire movement chain from head to foot.  When you find a problem, you can then focus on those problems in your warm-up, then recheck the movement prior to starting high demand athletic activity.

Pull-up & Muscle-up Workshop

You've asked, we listened. Many of our members are ready to take their pull-up to the next level. Maybe you've missed a skill day or can't make it to open gym. This workshop is your chance to learn a new pulling skill or work learn the best progression for YOU individually to reach that goal.

Still working on a strict pull-up? No problem, we can help. A few strict pull-ups? Perfect, let's work on that Kip.

We will cover Strict Pull-up, Kipping Pull-up, Butterfly Pull-up, Bar Muscle-up, Ring Muscle-up, and progressions for each.

When: Saturday February 10th 1015-1100 am (following 9am CrossFit WOD)

Intro to Locomotion Hosted by Brooks Meadows

Locomotion is a full body exercise that stimulates and builds high levels of strength, flexibility, and body control. In this workshop you will learn 3 Core Movement Patterns. You will also learn transitions between movements, stretches for locomotion and variations and progressions so you know exactly where to start, no matter what your current fitness level is.

No experience of movement or fitness is required. The only essential attribute is the willingness to crawl around, explore different body movements, and have fun! This workshop can be the first step to developing a movement practice or it can be just what you need to take your practice to the next level.

Summer Sweatfest 2016 Benefiting St. Jude

CrossFit Mechanix is hosting a functional fitness competition consisting of 3 workouts and one final workout for the top 5 athletes in each category. All proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. There will be 4 categories to include, Individual Male/Female RX and Individual Male/Female Scaled. Spots are limited so don't wait to register. The event will begin at 9am September 10th 2016 at CrossFit Mechanix located at 3570 Canada Rd. Lakeland TN 38002 (The Lakeland Outlet Mall Annex) 

NOTE: Registration Fee will increase to $65 on Sept. 3rd. Anyone not registered by Sept. 1st is not guaranteed a shirt.

2015 Mid-South Mud Run Challenge 5K!

Join us for our 2nd year participating in the Mid-South Mud Run 5K on Saturday May 30th! We had a blast getting muddy last year and this year proves to be even better with more CFMX athletes participating. There are 2 ways to participate: as an Individual or on a Team of 4. Registration fees support the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

2015 Memorial Day 'Murph' wod at CrossFit Mechanix

Join us this Memorial Day for the annual 'Murph' WOD in honor of LT. Michael P. Murphy.

Memorial Day Murph has become a tradition in the CrossFit community throughout the world as a time to reflect and give thanks to those who have given their lives to protect our nation. More info on LT. Murphy can be found here

Murph is a challenging workout including a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and 1 mile run to finish. Individuals that may find the full workout daunting may complete what is known as 'Half Murph'. Modifying the workout to be appropriate for each individual is absolutely acceptable to maintain a safe and effective workout.

Murph will take place at 0900 on May 25th, 2015 and will be our only class time that day. It is sure to be a good workout and one that you will remember.

Join us for a fun-filled-Friday evening as we tackle the infamous workout “Fran” with a little twist. As the title states, (and you may have guessed) we are going to have a little fun with a not-so-fun workout by wearing business attire during this one. Dust off those old slacks, dress shirt, sport coat, ties, etc. You’ve got a business meeting with a few thrusters and pull-ups. We might not have record breaking times but it is sure to be a WOD to remember.

 

Don’t have any ‘suit’able options? Not to fret. Goodwill, Salvation Army, or your favorite thrift shop are sure to have the perfect getup to sweat in style! An award will be given to the athlete that is voted ‘Best Dressed’ (relative term) by everyone that participates. Show them you’re all about business!

'Butter' than any coffee you've ever had!

We all love coffee. We all love butter (I sure hope you do). If you haven’t tried the two together, now is your chance!

Saturday’s coffee class will replace Yoga this Saturday morning due to our Yoga instructor having a last minute scheduling conflict.

This Saturday, 3/21 - 8 am we will be hosting a ‘How-to’ class to teach you how to make your very own coffee with BUTTER(gasp)! That’s right, butter in your coffee. You may be thinking those of us that love this combo are crazy but I can assure you, it is much better than you may think. Cream is a universally accepted addition to coffee and grass-fed butter is made from cream, just without the buttermilk. It is rich and delicious and best of all, you can kick the sugar to the curb. This combo is surprisingly sweet and takes the ‘bitterness’ out of coffee. 

The healthy fats from butter and MCT oil will slow the absorption of the caffeine (prevent the jitters) and give you a nice steady source of energy for a few hours. Healthy fats are known to help satiate hunger cravings and provide clean fuel for your brain to function optimally, rather than sugar which can cause a spike and crash, leaving you unfocused and your brain in a fog. 

Caution: if you don’t like coffee, you might love it after you try it with the right amount of butter and MCT oil (from coconut oil). CrossFit Mechanix is not responsible for any addiction to this brew!

Saturday Morning Yoga at CFMX with Cassie!

Join us for a relaxing yoga class as we stretch our way to unlocking new flexibility!

A few of you may remember when we held a few yoga classes last year. Well, Cassie is back and ready to help us get a little more limber. Everyone could use more flexibility which means more mobility in the gym as well (don't make me start calling people out;). If the event goes well and has decent attendance then it will become a regularly scheduled event.
